February 26, 2017- The Eastman Bunch

On Sunday, February 26, 2017 the Rochester Theater Organ Society presented the annual, Eastman Bunch program.  The program included several Eastman School Students with their approach to theater organ performance along with the 2016 ATOS Young Organist Competition winner, Seamus Gethicker.

Slide Show of Event

2016 ATOS Young Organist Competition Winner

Seamus Gethicker is in his senior year at Morse High School in Bath, Maine.  It was love at first sight when at age 8 he attended a Magic of Christmas concert at Merrill Auditorium in Portland, ME and first saw the mighty Kotzschmar Organ played by Ray Cornils.

By attending the American Theatre Organ Society’s “Summer Youth Adventure” since 2014 through scholarships generously given by the Eastern Mass ATOS Chapter, Seamus has had the opportunity to learn more about theatre organ and also having the chance to meet many others his own age who share his passion.  He was a finalist in the Young Theatre Organist Competition in 2015 and the winner for 2016.

Seamus has been studying classical organ with Ray Cornils and plays regularly at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Bath, Maine.  He is an active member of the Pine Tree Chapter and the Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the American Theater Organ Society, and is also a docent for the Friends of the Kotzschmar Organ.

Outside of the organ, Seamus plays trombone in his school’s concert band, and is a member of the chorus.  He also enjoys theatre lighting design where he designs and runs the lights for his school's stage crew throughout the year.
